The Contra Shear is a self cleaning, internally fed, rotary fine screen. The cylindrical screen drum, constructed from wedge wire(0.25mm gap), ensures a high level of solids capture compared to conventional screens. The slurry is either pumped or flows by gravity into a weir tank located inside the screen drum.

The weir tank reduces turbulence and introduces the slurry onto the rotating drum face through an arc of 90 degrees as it overflows its front edge. The screen drum itself rotates at a low speed in the opposite direction to the slurry flow.

The section of the screen drum under the weir tank acts as a draining zone, while the discharge end section acts as the dewatering zone. Solids in the dewatering zone agglomerate and are continuously rolled on account of the rotation of the screen drum, resulting in further reduction of liquid content. The wedge wire drum is very easily cleaned using water at moderate pressure.
